Coaches Credentialing 20-21

Coaches,

Welcome to a new hockey season.  Thank you for offering your time, knowledge and mentorship to VMHC’s players.  We truly appreciate it!  Below are helpful links to help get you credentialed to coach. There is no need to send me proof of any completions except for the concussion training.  All cert’s are tracked and stored in USAH portal and that is where we both can access the information needed.  Please do not wait until the day before your first game to get these completed.  There is lag time between when you finish them to when it appears in USAH and allows me to add you to the roster.  Feel free to reach out with any questions and when emailing please always identify which team you coach to make it a bit easier for me. Thanks again and have a great season!  GO MOUNTAINEERS!!

Same name spelling-  As you register for these things be consistent with your name every year.  For example; using middle initials, Mike and Michael, or Juniors.  If you choose to use it on one certification, make sure to spell it the same on all the registrations.

Register with USA Hockey for coach.  This is $46 that is refundable by Vail Mountain Hockey Club. https://membership.usahockey.com/

Background Check- Most of you will need to complete this even if you had it done last year because there is a new process through USAH. It is $30 and refundable by VMHC.    https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

Age Specific Coaching Modules.  These are online training modules ($10 per module). You only need to complete the age group you will be coaching. These modules are time consuming so please set aside enough time to complete them. They must be complete before you can be on the roster.

Coaching Clinic’s (CEP)  Usually, this is a classroom and on-ice training that you attend in person. This year USA Hockey announced that it will conduct its Level 1-4 coaching certification clinics virtually. Some extensions are being offered this year so read the changes closely.

Safesport - SafeSport is a yearly requirement for staff and players born in 2003 or earlier. If you have taken it previously you will only need to do the refresher.  The system should direct you to the course you need to take.

http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining   Select register for Safesport training, organization USA Hockey, membership type- athlete, coach, manager, volunteer. Type in your USAH# as your confirmation #.

Concussion Training- This is a mandatory training and is the only certificate that needs to be sent to registrar@vailmountaineers.org

 https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html

Reimbursement- Any registration costs that are incurred for coach training will be reimbursed by the club.  Email copies (or even send a picture) of your registration costs to treasurer@vailmountaineers.org

We realize obtaining these qualifications is time consuming so please accept our sincere gratitude for helping our community grow the game of hockey!!
